Statement of Faith

Last updated in Bylaws: 4-18-2017

We believe in one God, eternally existent in three persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. We believe in the Deity of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Son of God. We believe in His virgin birth, His sinless life, His atoning death, His bodily resurrection, His ascension to heaven, and His imminent return.

We believe that the Bible, inspired by the Holy Spirit, reveals the plan of God for humankind. In the Bible we understand that our original parents, created in God’s image, freely chose to abuse their freedom, breaking their perfect unity with God. All humankind struggles with the sinful nature inherited from our first parents.

We believe that Jesus Christ is the Savior of all humankind. The Holy Spirit, sent by the risen Christ, came to convict the world concerning sin by revealing Him who is its Redeemer. God’s grace is the only means of healing our sin and only through His grace do we find the hope of eternal salvation.

We believe that man is dependent on God and subject to His laws. We believe that the institution of marriage is part of the natural order created by God. Jesus Himself taught that “He who made them from the beginning made them male and female, and said ‘For this reason a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh’” (Matthew 19:4a-5 RSV). We therefore affirm that marriage is a union between one man and one woman, and any attempt to redefine marriage goes against God’s law and natural law.

We believe that, in order to preserve the function and integrity of Home Educated Youth as a Christian support group for homeschooling families, it is imperative that all persons who serve as volunteers should abide by and agree to this Statement of Faith. Furthermore, we believe that every person must be afforded compassion, love, and respect because of the inherent dignity given by God to every human person. Hateful or harassing behavior or attitudes directed toward any individual are not in accord with the teachings of Jesus Christ, nor with the values of Home Educated Youth, and such behavior or attitudes are to be repudiated.
